Ambulance Giveaway; 25 May 2016
Unalaska, AK – The UDPS is pleased to announce that the Unalaska City Council authorized the donation of DPS’ outgoing ambulance to the City of Chignik. Unalaska received a new ambulance at the beginning of the year and the retired ambulance was offered to communities in our region. Volunteers and paid staff reviewed three applications – from the Cities of Chignik and King Cove, and Bristol Bay Borough – before recommending the City of Chignik as the recipient. The selection matrix included community need; community storage and maintenance capabilities; and the size and longevity of the community’s EMS service. Unalaska has donated one other ambulance, in 2013, to the City of Cold Bay. Transportation of the retired ambulance is still being arranged.
