Communications Division

The Communications Division of the Unalaska Department of Public Safety is staffed by a Communications Sergeant and four Communications Officers, who provide 24-hour service. We are the 911 answering point for the City of Unalaska. Activities in the Communications Division include answering all incoming calls, attending to walk-in requests for service, and dispatching Police, Fire, EMS, and Marine Emergency Response. Five radio frequencies are monitored. Located in the Communications Center is the Airport Security phone, NAWAS phone, building security monitors, and multiple alarm systems.

The Communications Section maintains all department records and provides administrative support to the other sections and divisions. We have full access to the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) computer system with links to the other states, Federal Agencies and Canada. We use this system as well as department files to provide assistance in criminal investigations and maintain person and property files.

The Communications Section takes a proactive role in public safety awareness issues by participating in the Community Health Fair and in school programs, including the proper use of the 911 system.
