Land Management

Program Mission: Providing technical assistance for the management of land under the ownership of the City or needed for City projects through the leasing of City property and the acquisition of easements and property interests for the advancement of City projects.
 

What We Do

Management of City’s Tideland Leases. Managing the City’s tideland leases is a responsibility of the Planning Department. The department accepts tideland lease applications from developers or interested parties at any time. Department staff reviews tideland lease applications for compliance with Title 7 of City Code and the Tideland Leasing Policy. Leases are prepared by department staff and approved by City Council.

Acquisition of Easements for City Projects. Easement acquisition is managed by the Planning Department, according to administrative policy. Easements related to private developments are typically acquired through the platting process.

Applications and Supporting Documents

The documents attached below are related to land management in Unalaska.

Tideland Leasing: Applications for a tide and submerged lands lease are submitted to the Planning Department. The Planning Department then evaluates the applications and reports a recommendation to the City Manager. The City Manager may execute a lease after City Council approval for tide and submerged lands pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 7.12 and in Tideland Leasing Regulations.
