Press Release - New PCR Managers

Unalaska, Alaska, September 01, 2015 – Albert Burnham, CPRP, and Nicholas Cron were recently hired as Recreation Manager and Operations Manager respectively with the City of Unalaska Department of Parks, Culture and Recreation (PCR). 

Burnham was hired with PCR in October 2009.  He worked as a Recreation Coordinator over Leisure Activities and Teen Programming before transitioning to Recreation Coordinator over Special Events and Public Relations.  Burnham was promoted to the Operations Manager position within the department in February 2014.  The Recreation Manager position oversees five full-time Recreation Coordinators and all activities, events, and programs for the department.  The Recreation Manager also serves as the Acting Director whenever the PCR Director is out-of-town. Burnham was elected to the Alaska Recreation and Park Association (ARPA) Board of Directors last fall and has been a regular presenter at the Annual ARPA Conferences.  Burnham has been an active member of the Unalaska community through Unalaska Christian Fellowship where he serves as an Adult Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader.  Burnham is a native of Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania and graduate of Frostburg State University in Maryland where he holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Parks and Recreation Management and Philosophy.

Cron was hired with PCR in April 2012.  He has worked as the Recreation Coordinator over Fitness / Sports / Wellness since his arrival to the department.  The Operations Manager oversees five Recreation Assistants and facility operations at Burma Road Chapel, a multipurpose PCR facility, the Community Center, and all parks.  Cron holds professional memberships with ARPA and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and is a member of the ARPA Awards Committee.  Cron’s community involvement includes Aleutian Arts Council Board of Directors and Unalaska City School District JV girls basketball and Jr. high volleyball coach this upcoming season.  Cron is a native of Vicksburg, Michigan and a graduate of Grand Valley State University, where he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.

Unalaska PCR is a comprehensive parks and recreation department that also provides library services.  The department is comprised of four facilities, eight parks, and 35 employees.  PCR holds agency memberships with ARPA and NRPA.  The department’s vision is to be the most highly recognized comprehensive small town park and recreation department in the country.
