Fireworks Permit
FIREWORKS
In December 2021, the Unalaska City Council amended city code dealing with fireworks. Fireworks are not allowed for sale, use or deployment except as provided in code (UCO 13.24.090). Code allows the following uses:
- A fireworks display pursuant to a Fireworks Display Permit issued by the Alaska State Fire Marshal;
- Wire sparklers and snakes;
- Class 1.4G fireworks (Class C Common Fireworks), are allowed to be used by persons over the age of 18, who have the consent of the property on which the fireworks are are being used, on the following dates and times:
- December 31 between sunset and 1:00am on January 1;
- January 1 between sunset and 10:00pm;
- July 3 between 11:30pm and 1:00am on July 4; and
- July 4 between 8:00am and 1:00am on July 5.
People can apply for permission from the City to deploy Class 1.4G fireworks (Class C Common Fireworks) for a date and time not provided for in code, as follows:
APPLICATION PROCESS
The City Fireworks Permit Application can be obtained in person from the Front Desk at the Department of Public Safety located at 29 Safety Way. The application is also attached below.
Once the application has been completed, submit to the Unalaska Fire Department for a Fire Hazard Review. The application must be submitted no later than seven (7) calendar days prior to the event.
1) The form may be hand delivered to the Unalaska Public Safety Facility at 29 Safety Way; or
2) The form may be faxed to 907.581.5024 Attn: UFD; or
3) The form may be emailed (call 907.581.5330 to obtain the email address for the on-duty personnel).
Requirements:
The completed form must include:
-Email address of the applicant (for notification of approval disposition purposes)
-The specific day and time the fireworks are to be deployed
-Proof of consent from the property owner from which the fireworks will be deployed
-Identification and proof of age for the person deploying the fireworks
Notification of Approval Disposition:
A digital (scanned) copy of the application will be emailed to the applicant no later than two (2) calendar days prior to the event.
