Department of Finance is accepting applications for the position of PROJECT MANAGEMENT/FIXED ASSET ACCOUNTANT.  Position is open for applications until 5:00 pm on Friday, June 12, 2015.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  This position, under minimal supervision of the Finance Director will be responsible for financial reporting on grants, projects and fixed assets for the City.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:  Maintains productive working relationships within the department and with representatives of the community at all levels, including elected officials and staff, business, civic and agency personnel, boards and commissions, the media and the public.  Manages accounting responsibilities of projects for the City through developing, analyzing, interpreting internal distribution of financial information for each project, sets up new projects and budgets as created through the CMMP process or throughout the year by Council.  Ensures Munis project reports are complete and accurate; maintains complete project files and adherses to the City’s retention policy.  Manages fixed assets, organizes preparation, review process and analysis of periodic project accounting reports.  Prepares depreciation schedules annually.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing.  Must have strong computer skills, especially spread sheeting and word processing software.  Must have a working knowledge of all types of office equipment.  Must be able to reconcile spreadsheets to reports provided from financial software.  Ability to participate in meetings with staff, public and private officials.  Ability to reconcile accounting information and have an understanding of governmental accounting principles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or equivalent.  Two years in governmental accounting preferred.  Governmental accounting classes, training and grant management experience is preferred.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess an Alaska driver’s license.  Continuing education classes as they relate to position responsibilities.

PAY RANGE:   Grade C41                                                          Regular Full Time Position 
                           $56,987.77 – $71,209.72 per year, DOE      Excellent Benefits
