Unalaska Public Library Awarded 5-Star Rating for 2015 by Library Journal

Students from the PCR360 Program celebrate the library’s 5-star rating with Librarian Karen Kresh.

On November 2, 2015, Library Journal released their annual list of Star Libraries, and Unalaska Public Library has been awarded a 5-star rating, the highest possible, for the seventh year in a row. In the state of Alaska, only three other libraries received the 5-star honor: Haines, Delta Junction, and Sand Point. Two other Alaskan libraries also made the list: Craig (4 stars) and Tri-Valley in Healy (3 stars).

The star rating is calculated using statistics such as library visits, circulation, public computer use, and program attendance. This honor is a result of the hard work of Unalaska Public Library staff, the Library Advisory Committee, and the Friends of the Library, as well as the support of the entire community. We all work together to make our local library shine.

The Unalaska Public Library provides books and movies, computer access and free wifi, programs for all ages, meeting space, exam proctoring, passport services, and more. The library is part of the Department of Parks, Culture, and Recreation, whose vision is to be the most highly recognized comprehensive small town park and recreation department in the country.
