POSITION: CITY ENGINEER
SALARY: $80,553 - $104,702 / yearly             

The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of City Engineer in the Public Works Department.  Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,700 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position, under supervision from the Director of Public Works, oversees engineering design, provides technical engineering support, and is responsible for capital improvement project administration. Duties also include resolving public technical questions and developing engineering solutions for road, building, and utility maintenance projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of standard civil engineering principles including: design, surveying, analysis, construction inspection, project engineering and management, and contract administration.  Have knowledge of permitting and environmental regulations for construction projects. Ability to prepare and present complex technical reports, designs, and presentations to non-technical audiences, establish and maintain productive working relationships with various people and organizations, excellent written and oral communication and ability to follow complex written and oral instructions, work under pressure, maintain professionalism, ability to multi-task work load, and meet multiple deadlines.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering with three years of work experience as a professional engineer in construction management required; preferably in a government setting. One year of supervisory experience, preferably in a government setting.

Combination of education and experience that could provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed will be evaluated on an individual basis.

LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have Alaska Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil Engineering or ability to obtain
Must have, or be able to obtain, an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.
Must be eligible to work in the US; requirement by Federal Law if hired must complete employment eligibility verification (I-9)
Must remain current on the principals and practices of the engineering profession.
Maintain active and current certifications for the duration of employment.
Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing i.e. Criminal background and History, drug testing.
