Position: Temporary Water Operator in Training (OIT)
Hiring Wage: $27.61 - $29.30 / hour [nonexempt]
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Temporary Water Operator in Training for the Department of Public Utilities. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is an entry level position, which under the supervision of the Water Supervisor, performs and assist in a variety of unskilled and skilled work in the maintenance, operation, repair, replacement and construction of City water treatment and distribution systems
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Assist in maintenance, operation, repair and installation of motors, pumps, strainers, fans, chemical systems, fire hydrants, key box’s and other equipment to ensure effective operation of treatment and distribution systems. Assist in operating valves and gates; starting and stopping pumps, engines and generators and other equipment. Assist in maintaining records, diagnosing equipment and operations malfunctions, requisitioning supplies and reporting malfunctions to obtain corrective action. Ability and willingness to comply with all City policies and regulations outlined by OSHA and the City standards for safety. Maintain good communication with public and co-workers.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent. Combination of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have, or be able to obtain, an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.
Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing i.e. Criminal background and History and Drug Testing.
Must be eligible to work in the US; requirements by Federal Law if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9)
Ability to work outside in inclement weather and darkness.
