Deputy Chief Simms

Bill Simms started as a reserve police officer for The Unalaska Department of Public Safety in 2000 and was hired as a patrol officer in March 2001. Simms attended session # 2 of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, Tanana Valley Campus Law Enforcement Academy in Fairbanks, Alaska. Simms served the community of Unalaska as a patrol officer for seven years before being promoted to Sergeant in 2008. Simms served as Patrol Sergeant for ten years. From 2018-2020, Simms served as the Acting Deputy Chief. In 2020 Simms accepted a promotion to Deputy Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Simms is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute (SPI), University of Louisville, 140th Administrative Officers Course (AOC). Deputy Chief Simms is a Certified Police Officer with the Alaska Police Standards Council and is a Certified Police Instructor, Police Training Officer Instructor, Background Investigator, Homicide Investigator, and Certified NRA-LEO Firearms Instructor.
