Press Release- Transportation Study for Comprehensive Plan 2030

Planning Department Seeks Transportation Information for Comprehensive Plan 2030

Unalaska AK, August 4, 2017: The City of Unalaska Planning Department will be conducting a transportation study to identify the needs of the community and inform the next decade of city infrastructure planning.

For one month this summer and another in the coming winter the Planning Department will be conducting a transportation study. Temporary cameras have been mounted on various city buildings to assist with evaluating traffic counts, patterns, and vehicle types. This study also includes counting pedestrians at the various points.

The first study period will begin on Monday August 14 and end on Sunday August 20,2017. The city will provide use of the PCR Bus as a public transit system. It will operate on a schedule and route between the hours of 7am-11 pm. For this study there is no cost to ride the bus. The study will use several surveys to identify and anticipate current and future needs as well as assess any issues that are noted during the bus operation. For example, one survey seeks information on pedestrians and why they choose to walk versus access to other types of transportation. Another survey will ask riders about their experience and opinions about public transit. A survey will also be available to anyone interested in providing comments about the study.

More information will follow in another press release as well as on the city of Unalaska website at www.ci.unalaska.ak.us Focus groups will also gather community input as part of the Comprehensive Plan Process.
