POSITION: WATER SUPERVISOR
SALARY: $45.85-$48.64/Hourly
The City of Unalaska is located in the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor. Unalaska, Alaska is a coastal community located in the Eastern Aleutian Islands with a multi-cultural population of approximately 4,000 full-time residents and seasonal influxes from multiple commercial fishery operations.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Manages the Water Division for the City of Unalaska encompassing nearly everything related to the water production, treatment, transmission, and distribution systems. This includes supervising operations, maintenance, construction, planning, and administrative duties. Oversees the development of the Water employees as senior or junior operators and as crew members.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Extensive experience relating to the operation, construction, repair, and/or maintenance of water production, treatment, transmission, and distribution systems, including the operation of related maintenance equipment and an understanding of system hydraulics. Thorough knowledge of machinery, equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in water treatment and distribution systems; standard processes and chemicals used in testing and treating water as well as the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. Extensive knowledge concerning City of Unalaska, State of Alaska DEC and Federal EPA policies, ordinances, rules, and regulations regarding water system operations. Considerable knowledge of computers in a Windows environment including formulas and budgetary experience. Considerable experience with customer service in a wide variety of situations and conditions. Knowledge of the principles and practices of employment supervision, including employee development, training, labor contract requirements, performance evaluations, and progressive discipline.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Four years or more of post-secondary education in science, engineering, or a closely related field (preferred)
Three years or more of supervisory level experience (preferred)
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Other equivalent combination of experience and education which could be substituted for the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, and certifications will be evaluated on an individual basis
LICENSES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Required to have, or be able to obtain, an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire
Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing i.e. Criminal background and History and future periodic random drug testing
Must be eligible to work in the US; requirements by Federal Law if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9).

If applicable, lump sum relocation assistance (taxable) maximum of $7,000 plus airfare for the employee and one family member
Travel allowance $2,000 every year on date of hire after 1st year of employment
Longevity bonus $2,000 beginning on third (3rd) year anniversary
Education Incentive per month dependent on degree Associate $200, BA $300, Master $400
