Position: LIGHT EQUIPMENT MECHANIC / OILER
Hiring Wage: $32.83 – $34.83 hourly [ non exempt]
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Light Equipment Mechanic / Oiler for Public Works. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic Chief, will provide daily maintenance of heavy and light equipment in the field. Duties will include fueling, greasing, oil changes, tire repair, and other minor repairs as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must have the ability and willingness to comply with OSHA regulations and the standards for safety that have been set by the City of Unalaska. Have working knowledge of repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems for motor vehicles and various construction and maintenance equipment. Possess ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships and professionalism. Have knowledge of or the ability to learn rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and terminology used in a vehicle maintenance division. Must be able to effectively read and interpret schematic diagrams and manuals. To perform duties, must be able to effectively operate diagnostic equipment. Ability to use and manipulate hand and power tools, objects, and equipment controls safely and efficiently. Have the ability to operate various types of construction/maintenance equipment for the purpose of moving equipment for needed repairs and scheduled maintenance.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum two (2) years maintaining/servicing vehicles, and construction and maintenance equipment.
LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Required to have, or be able to obtain an Alaska CDL “B” endorsement.
Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing i.e. Criminal background and History and random drug testing
Must be eligible to work in the US; requirements by Federal Law if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9).
Ability to work in an equipment shop with noise and orders.
Majority of the work is outside and often in adverse weather.
Emergency or non-traditional work hours may be necessary
Maintain active and current certifications and licensing for the duration of employment
