Position: LIBRARY ASSISTANT, ON CALL – UP TO 6 MONTHS  
Salary: $26.68- $28.30/ hour

The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Library Assistant On-Call at the Unalaska Library in the Parks, Culture, and Recreation Department.  Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position, under direct supervision from the City Librarian, provides on-call routine clerical and library work in answering phones, receiving patrons, circulation of library materials, collecting of library fines, providing customer assistance, cash handling, and data processing. Please note that this is an on-call position with no guaranteed hours. The person in this position will work on-call hours when needed, and shifts may sometimes be requested on short notice. Hours will not exceed 25 in any given week.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to work with the public in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner. Verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to use basic office equipment. Dedication to maintaining the confidentiality of library patron records. Knowledge of and ability to accurately maintain record keeping and filing systems. Must be proficient in a Windows environment.  Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. Able to perform a variety of miscellaneous duties as assigned such as but not limited to answering phones, run errands, make arrangements for use of library facilities, set up tables and chairs for classes, and occasionally help with planning and presenting programs to the public.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Two (2) or more years of experience working in a professional office, providing public service, or previous library experience preferred.
Other combination of education and experience which could provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed will be evaluated on an individual basis.

LICENSES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Alaska driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment and prior to operating a city-owned vehicle.
Must be eligible to work in the US; if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9) as required by Federal law.
Successfully pass background test which includes criminal background, professional, and reference check. 
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
Employee will be required to work flexible hours on an on-call basis including weekends.
