POSITION: Installation Maintenance Worker
SALARY: $39.32 - $41.71/hourly [Union Position Hiring range - Step 1-3]
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the Installation Maintenance Worker position. Located in the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor, Unalaska, Alaska, is a coastal community in the Eastern Aleutian Islands with a multi-cultural population of approximately 4,250 full-time residents and seasonal influxes from multiple commercial fishery operations.
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all employee tasks in this classification. The duties shown are designed to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position performs various skilled and semi-skills duties for the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of City buildings, facilities, properties, and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
> Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
> Knowledge of standard building and systems repairs, maintenance, and record keeping. Must be safety conscious and possess good “housekeeping” skills, i.e., maintain a neat and orderly workstation.
> Ability to use, care, and maintain accountability of hand and power tools and accessories.
> Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and manuals.
> Ability to use standard methods, procedures, tools, and equipment of the maintenance trades to perform general building and systems repairs properly.
> Must be able to maintain accurate records.
> Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
> Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
> Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
> Ability to learn and abide by the building maintenance division's rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and terminology.
> Ability to obtain forklift certification.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
> Must have at least two (2) years experience in the building trades.
> Vocational training, particularly in building system maintenance, is preferred.
> Any combination of education and experience that could provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed will be evaluated individually.
LICENSES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS::
> Must be at least 18 years of age.
> Required to have a current driver's license and be able to obtain an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.
> Must be eligible to work in the US; if hired, must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9) as required by Federal law.
> Successfully pass a background test, which includes criminal background, professional, and reference checks.
> Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
> Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in dusty, wet, cold, and snowy conditions.
> Position requires lifting and physical effort to complete assignments without assistance.

> Tool Allowance of up to $100 per pay period
> Free Membership for Parks, Culture, and Recreation (PCR) (employee only)
