Position: ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT I – CASH RECEIPTS
Salary: $24.94 - 26.46 / hourly
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Accounting Assistant I, Cash Receipts in the Finance Department. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is an entry level position that works under moderate supervision by performing a full range of duties associated with receiving and processing payments, providing customer service, assisting with accounts receivable billing, and general office functions. This position receipts all money received by the City, edits and balances payment batches, prepares bank deposits, and works closely with the public in person and by telephone. In addition, the person in this position assists with utility, port and miscellaneous billing as needed and performs other routine office tasks such as filing, scanning, and copying.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, communicate clearly, and provide excellent customer service in occasionally stressful situations. Must be detail oriented, have excellent data entry skills, and be able to coordinate simultaneous tasks and projects and to meet multiple deadlines. This position requires excellent cash handling skills, the ability to learn and follow policies and procedures, and the ability to balance and reconcile batches of cash, check, electronic and credit card payments. Ability to complete tasks and projects with others in a team environment or individually. Must be proficient in using Windows and Microsoft office products and systems; experience with Munis is a plus. Familiarity in operating a multi-line phone system. Must comply with the Unalaska Code of Ordinances and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
One (1) year or more office and customer service experience.
Two (2) years in bookkeeping, accounting or equivalent preferred.
Experience in receipting and balancing cash, check, credit card and electronic payments.
Other combination of education and experience that could provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed will be evaluated on an individual basis.
LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have or ability to obtain an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire;
Must be eligible to work in the US; if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9) as required by Federal law.
Successfully pass background test which includes criminal background, professional and reference check.
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
