Resignation of Arlie Colvin, Fire Chief

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Resignation of Arlie Colvin, II-Fire Chief, for City of Unalaska

Unalaska, Alaska, December 26, 2017 – Acting City Manager Erin Reinders has announced Arlie Colvin’s resignation as the City of Unalaska’s Fire Chief effective December 22, 2017. Colvin resigned during his probationary period.

As the search for a new Fire Chief begins in the coming days, immediate steps have been taken to maintain the level of Fire and EMS service Unalaska needs and deserves.  As a sign of support and commitment to the division’s staff and volunteers, Public Safety Director Mike Holman has designated longtime Volunteer Captain, Salvador Alvarado and current Fire Captain, Ariel Hernandez as the division’s primary operational points of contact until Senior Fire Captain, Mike Hanson has returned from personal leave.

“We fully understand the need to have solid leadership in the Fire Division and aggressively recruiting to fill the Chief position is our top priority.” Interim City Manager, Nancy Peterson stated.

The City was able to purchase a plane ticket for Mr. Colvin, departing Unalaska on December 23, 2017, to provide him an opportunity to spend the Christmas holiday with his family in Indiana.

Because this is a personnel issue, the City is unable to provide any additional information on this matter.
